![]() Background: If they are to ever speak of legends in NPW, then you can be assured that the name of Mars will be etched in its history books. At a time when the fledgling promotion was still trying to gain ground in the Danville wrestling scene, NPW fell short in its roster of superstars. Christmas Slay '99, the first taped NPW event, had only 5 wrestlers. By its second showing, Millenium Blackout, NPW had gained 4 more, including a technically skilled powerhouse called Mars. His first 2 matches in NPW can be considered squashes, defeating a young Dave "Treehugger" Willis and the unimpressive Ivan Russkie in matches where they were overwhelmingly "out-wrestled." Randy Dekin, despite being a good judge of skill and talent in the squared circle, took a major risk in making Mars's 3rd match be for the coveted NPW Heavyweight Title. He succeeded in beating Big Smith, but by DQ, so the title still remained out of his hands for another 2 shows. His title reign lasted for an impressive 11 NPW events and 15 months to the very day! Needless to say, such a record has never been broken, nor may it ever. After losing the NPW Heavyweight Championship, Mars relied less on his true in-ring skills and more on his tools of deceit and deception. His confusing "dual identity" charade helped him win and retain the DCW-Danville-Tilton Championship for an 8 month run, till being defeated in a triple threat match with Sweet Jimmy D and Zero. By then, he had dropped the name Mars, and, seeking to relive his roots in DCW, continued on under the name Crisis. For some, the change meant the end of something truly great. It turned out not to be the end, however, as one of NPW's greatest champions returned at Heatstroke 2003. Finally dropping the Crisis persona, Mars went on to defeat Sweet Jimmy D for the DCW Championship. A second run with the belt to be sure, but this time with the name of a true NPW legend.
