Background: Big Smith, the self-proclaimed nutcase of NPW, blasted his way into the history books by becoming the first ever NPW Heavyweight Champion at Christmas Slay '99. Hated by many, feared by all, Smith ripped through the early competition of NPW using his size and strength to his advantage. A long standing hatred for Ultimate began in those early days with several grudge matches between the Ice Fairy and the dynamic tag duo. Big Smith won the NPW Hardcore strap in one such encounter with his long-time nemesis Omega in a hardcore matchup that still excites fans to this day. Less than one year later, the big man succeeded in unifying that same title with the Vermilion County title to be crowned the first ever Unified Hardcore Champion, but that was not nearly enough as he soon set his eyes on the ultimate prize once more. The end of 2001 marked the beginning of Big Smith's hunt for the NPW Heavyweight Championship. Then in the hands of his old foe, Omega, Big Smith pursued the former hardcore extremist throughout the first half of 2002, forcing Omega to take desperate actions to hold on to the title. Big Smith came close, but not near close enough. It wasn't until a year later that Smith got another shot at the belt, this time being held by Wild Bill. Big Smith's intensity payed off by Christmas Slay '03 when he became the first ever 2-time NPW Champion, the first in this promotion's history. Big Smith will continue to prove he's no longer a pushover as challenger after challenger attempt to take away the title he made famous.
