![]() First I wanna appologize for having no column in August. I never saw King of Extreme in it's entirety, thus the delay. I have some time to fill while pushing buttons at the radio station, so I thought I'd at least update you with what's been going on and review what I've seen as of late.
First, The Federation of United Wrestlers was scheduled to have a show in Charleston at the frat house Friday September 5th, almost the exact anniversary of their first show in Chucktown. They were gonna get a new ring from a guy in Peoria, but the guy backed out. I don't know who the guy is, but Mike Chasteen, who refereed an NPW show or two, knows him. Promoter DJ Lukewarm says the Charleston branch of FUW is not finished yet.
The big news to me from Heatstroke is we once again have tag team champions in Dan Benson and Gumbo Boy. This proves wrestlers who you think are just there for entertainment purposes have goals and can succeed in Danville wrestling. Don't even try to count the Shockers out though. Ever since teaming up, they've had their sights set on those tag titles.
Dare Devil remains the Unified Hardcore Champion by getting a huge win in a great match over Zero. For those of you who didn't get to hear the post-show interviews, Zero had great things to say about Dare Devil, basically saying he deserves to have the title.
Wild Bill still has the NPW Championship and boy is he lucky. I understand Bill went into the match with an ankle or an knee injury. So he was very fortunate "Sweet" Jimmy D. was the ref and no match even happened against the powerful Mars. Hmmm...almost sounds too convenient. The reemergence of Timmy was hysterical as expected. I'm interested to see what the Commish has in store for him. Timmy's practically unbeatable, so Schmemtner will have to be careful with Timmy in a wrestling capacity if he doesn't want too many performers to end up on the disabled list.
So Tangler and El Ninja are done wrestling each other for a year. The match wasn't nearly as bad as Larry Dash made it out to be. It did get awkward when El Tinador stayed down for so long after such a light blow to the head. It really hurt the pace of the match.
Sparky got a leg up on Ivan Ruskie, defeating the commie convincingly by submission. A rematch with Jon Tomson will happen very soon I'm sure.
Now for what I've seen of this year's King of Extreme. It's certainly been a lot of fun, as expected. I'm really happy to see the Psycotic Drifter and Treehugger back. A huge Congratulations to Treehugger, winning the prostegious tournament after being absent since Next Event in September '02. He wasn't even supposed to be in the finals, after losing to El Ninja in the first round. El Ninja went into the finals with everything in his favor, including having won the Super D Cup just months before. That superplex through the table was as wild as anything we'd seen in NPW, and a great way to close out the always great tournament.
I'll have more on King of Extreme in my next column, after viewing the complete show.
I'm trying to book a one on one exclusive interview with Wayne Hewes II. It should be amusing, if not educational to say the least.
Hey Nikita Denise, close your eyes and that stuff won't get in there. Geez.
See you all on September 21st,
Mick
