![]() Hey hey everyone Mick Gene here. I'm fresh off watching Zero drop a big match to "Electric" Eric Freedom for the Wicked Wrestling Alliance up in La Salle. It was the opening round to a tournament to crowd their first champion. The match was a lot of fun, but in the end Zero was pinned after the Hippy Hippy Shake.
First, I wanna bring up some notes from Next Event '03. The no shows put a delay on everything Schmemtner wanted to accomplish, even causing him to leave in the middle of the show. The show went on though and we still had some fun, capping off with a DCW-style blast from the past.
The street fight between Zero and Mars against "Sweet" Jimmy D. and Wildkat was noticably one-sided. Maybe it's because it was a fight and not a rules-based wrestling match. It would appear, however, that the DDT Championship is as good as Mars's.
The Pit Demon has returned, meaning NPW has a much needed tag team in Team Hell. This should stir the pot a little when you figure in the Shockers and the champions.
Wayne Hewes II's Colt League has grown, this time with the addition of El Rosebud. Jerry Tomson and the rest of the Colt League showed they have a bit of a mean streak with the number they did on Zero following the international superstar's win over the two memebers of the League.
It appears as if Sparky has more fires to put out after Next Event. Originally, El Ninja was to team with Sparky to go after the tag team championships. Since El Ninja and "Longhorn" didn't show, that left Sparky and Gumbo Boy to go one on one. Gumbo's attitude keeps getting worse, shown by that blatent DQ with the trash can. Then, in a true act of bravado, Sparky agreed to replace Treehugger, another no show, in his match with The Tilton Tangler. Tangler won fairly easily, but don't get me wrong, Sparky got his licks in. I have a feeling a fresh Sparky has learned what it takes to beat the Tangler. So Sparky has Gumbo Boy, Tilton Tangler and Jon Tomson to get back at.
In my last column I said I'd review the rest of King of Extreme '03. Well, I didn't get to see the show in its entirety since then, but I will go over some notes from some matches I did see that I didn't mention last time.
Sparky vs. Hoghead in the opening round sure was an odd one. I think they spent more time looking for the holy hell water hose than wrestling. I think you can hear me laughing on the tape when Sparky just wouldn't stop drowning the clearly defeated Hellspawn.
The Trailor Park Death Match 2 was better than last year's, mostly to me because it wasn't nearly as long and still delivered what I want out of such a match. We still got a full tour of the trailer and lots of stunners in the end from Chilly McFreeze. As you already know, Gumbo Boy came out on top this time, with a little help from Dan Benson, paving the way for what will surely be a successful pairing.
Sparky suffered his first loss at the hands of El Ninja, but I understand the two had mutual respect for each other after the match. It appears as if Sparky's found himself his first ally.
The Babu vs. Zero added attraction was certainly wild and crazy and everything we want from those two. I'm sure DCWers had a mark out moment when the bag of acid came into play. What a mess.
We're looking at October 26th for Homecoming Bash. Here's hoping all can make it. I should be able to squeeze it into my Sunrise and Star E. watching schedule.
