![]() Hey hey Mick Gene here and as I write this we're only a week away from Carnage in the Cold '04. Due to the weather, there's a good chance this show will have to be postponed, but we made it through January and there's been some talk about presenting the show earlier in the day, so don't count February 8th out just yet. On to the review of Wrestling Oddity and hyping up CITC!
I absolutely loved the interview and match involving Big Smith and Zero. The whole "we don't like each other but we both love this sport" mystique reminded me of the basis of feuds like Steamboat/Flair or Flair/Funk. Although pizza box involvement was kept to a minimum in this one, that shot Zero took to the face had to satisfy your hardcore hunger. Smith came out on top, but Zero gave a valiant effort, earning him a match with Mars for the DCW Championship at Carnage in the Cold. Big Smith will be involved in the big six-man all out main event against three of the top rulebreakers in NPW, who all want a shot at
his NPW Championship.
Wildkat's chase for a top tier championship fell short in his match with Mars, but not after an impressive ending that came out of nowhere. With a finisher like the Peacemaker, those should be expected, but who's to know when they'll actually happen? Wildkat picked his spots very well during the match, earning him a spot in the six-man main in February. As mentioned above, Mars will defend his DCW Championship against Zero. These are two friends who've had fun
matches in the past and this one should be no exception.
On the surface, it appears as if Jade Shocker is out of NPW and the Shockers are no longer a tag team, leaving the challengers pool for Benson and Gumbo's championships a bit shallow. The match between Jade and Wayne had some great spots, including Jade's twisting top rope stunner. It doesn't get much more amazing than that. As reported, Wayne Shocker was attacked (not by anyone in NPW) shortly after Wrestling Oddity, leaving his chances of wrestling at ITC
'04 very slim. On the same note, Jade has asked for a farewell match. Could Wayne request that Jade take his place? Wayne's on the card to wrestle The Baron's Hugo Von Strapp. Both Wayne/Hugo and Jade/Hugo have the potential to be a sleeper.
As for Benson and Gumbo, they'll be getting singles matches at Carnage on the Cold. Benson is slated to wrestle El Ninja as a result of the end of the battle royal. El Ninja requested the match, saying a one on one confrontation will yield a different result. Gumbo Boy will get his long awaited rematch with Sparky for the NPW Unified Hardcore Championship. You may remember when Gumbo pummelled Sparky with weapons at last year's Next Event. This time the match will naturally be no DQ, putting the altercation in heavy favor for Gumbo.
While on the subject of Sparky, he got a very impressive win over Dare Devil at the Oddity, much in the style of the DCW Championship match. Dare Devil showed a ton of ring awareness in that one, notably when he countered that bullbog with a blue thunder bomb. But then he got ahead of himself, allowing Sparky to pull out another victory. Dare Devil will get another chance to show what he's capable of in the six-man in February.
Wild Bill proved he's not taking his NPW Championship loss in December lightly by getting a decisive and vengeful victory over Arnie Ambiguous. Both will meet again on opposite sides in the six-man.
Speculation as to who Big Smith's and Arnie's partner will be in the six-man heated up when the Toxies beat the Omega Men. Had the Omega Men won, Omega himself surely would have filled the mystery spot. But if it's not Omega, who? Dominion? Maximus O'Reilly? Bobby Beatnik? Dr. Professenstein? Iceburg? Nomad? Genocide? Shock? "Sweet" Jimmy D.? Armageddon? Rogue? Bogue? Dill
Boldberg? Geoffrey D. Sireable? Steypuff? Terry O'Possum? Phantom? Shadow? Shock? Javier? The Moocher? Scotty Rawlins? Garin T.? Bobby Beanpole? Stabwound Matthews? Johnny Democracy? Larry Boswell? "Big Chubbs" Dallas Mahoney? "Big Trouble" Fats Fugly? Superfly Stud? G-Money? Tiny Tim? The Red Blur? Bobkat Jr.? The Masked Guy? Johnny Rage? Salt? Peppa? J-Prodegy? Punkrawk Padraic? Big Mang? Adam Seattle? Mean Markus No Good? The No Good Taker? Swollen No Good? Damian Demonic? Skippy? Freight Train? "Skanky" Spanky Sutherland? Slice? Sickness? Bad Omen? Wraith? Super Tito? Big Bad John? Sam Hain? Randy Dekin? The Tilton Tire???
Reporting for NPW and intentionally boring you by bringing up gimmicks of the past,
I'm Mick Gene.
