![]() Barnyard Blitz 2004 is in the books and we're now looking forward to Homecoming Bash. We had some serious developments go on at the Blitz, and they look as if they'll affect what happens at the Bash. Onto my thoughts of Barnyard Blitz.
Big Smith had a solid match with Omega. I wouldn't say it lived up to their classic match for the Hardcore Title back at the Tukre Arena, but that's about impossible to do. Alpha got what was coming to him with that chokeslam, although I would've liked to have seen Omega get a lick in too. Omega's said he probably won't be able to make the last two shows this year, so it doesn't look like revenge for the franchise player will happen any time soon.
I enjoyed the 3-way confrontation between Dare Devil, X-Celerator and Big Smith following the NPW Championship match. Not only did it come across well, but it sets up what promises to be a great rematch from King of Extreme between Dare Devil and X-Celerator. Make no mistake, these two are allies, but have their own business agenda. If personal gain comes as a result of them wrestling each other, they'll be happy to do it and we as fans will reap the benefits. It was
very smart of them to try to take Big Smith out of the picture and make their match at the Bash a championship match. Thank God Omega prevented that from happening.
Wildkat slipped away with the DCW Championship in a contest where he was outsized and outmatched, but not outsmarted. Babu made a critical mistake letting his emotions get to him and it cost Mars the title. Benson can't be happy either, he was pinned by the guy who hired him previously as a hitman. All four guys want a piece of each other right now and it'll be interesting to see not if, but when the 2 for 1 special crosses over and breaks out into an all out war at Homecoming Bash.
Congratulations are in order for Wayne Shocker and Dre-Kahn for winning the NPW All-Vermilion Tag Team Championships in the king of the hill gauntlet match. They got the lucky draw and they seized the opportunity. The only thing I don't like is Alpha's bragging that his men beat five teams that day. I see his logic, but he's forgetting the exhaustion factor that goes into such a match. They'll rematch with Colt League members T-Money and Toxic Billy at the Bash,
who have the right to say they beat the team who beat the former champs, Dan Benson and Gumbo Boy.
The six-man bunkhouse was a lot of fun and it was great to see Treehugger get the pin in what will most likely be his last match this year. I was sorry to see that Zero couldn't make it because the bunkhouse has developed into a specialty of his since working the independents. As you could probably tell from the Russians attacking the victors afterward, this one isn't over. The
Commissioner would like to save the blow off to this feud for the final show of the year, Lights Out in November.
X-Celerator mostly dominated his match with Art Martial, but I did see potential in Martial with some of the kicks he was laying down. It was revealed, to no one's surprise, that Dare Devil intentionally caused that disqualification. His plan went for not, however, as he'll be wrestling X-Celerator on October 10th.
Dare Devil had a good match with Off Duty Officer Johnson, which surprisingly looked to be a fairly even contest. The result was what we expected, but I'm sure the commissioner took notice of the wrestling skill, and funny personality, of the off duty officer.
As for the NPW Championship match next show, I hear Dirty Al won't be able to wrestle in the event Schmemtner picks him to wrestle Big Smith, so by default it'll most likely be The Tilton Tangler challenging for the NPW Championship. Fans may wonder why does the Tangler get the shot. Keep in mind classic NWA matches with Ric Flair defending against tag team specialist Ricky Morton. Tangler has the credentials and it should make for a fun brawl.
I really, really hope we can do a battle royal at Homecoming Bash. It gives us a chance to see characters we normally don't see and I just love the mayhem that goes on.
Here are my Top 5 Funniest Moments from Barnyard Blitz:
5. Psychotic Drifter yelling "CAKE!"
4. Toxic Billy after being pinned: "I'm the damn ref!"
3. Psychotic Drifter cleaning the blood off himself with the Tennessee white
lightning, treating it like a shower.
2. General Sherman cawing like a crow (drunk) after the X-Celerator match.
1. Omega making that funny face at the camera for 10 seconds while waiting for
his music to fade out.
I'll see everyone at Homecoming Bash 2004 October 10th at the Brummett Field and Cow Pasture!!!
Reporting for NPW news,
I'm Mick Gene
